Some FACTS about CHLORINE DIOXIDE
- This disinfection method
offerenormous value with respect to safety, economics andeffectiveness. It requiresmall quantities of product to realiablydisinfect large volumes of water (only 5kg treats 2,8 million liters of water).
- Chlorine Dioxide is proven to be more effective against viruses, bacteria,
algea, fungi & protozoa – including the cysts and spores of Gardiaand oocysts of Cryptosporidium.
- With oxidation potentials 2,9 times that of
chlorine basedproducts (Chlorine = 0,34 vs CLO2 = 1.14), it offerfast, effective kill rates, by detroyingthe cell membrane and the nucleus of the bacteria.
- Chlorine Dioxide is NOT pH dependent, as is the case with
chlorine basedproducts (sodium & calciumhypoproducts). It’s well known that chlorine basedproducts hydrolysein water to form hypochlorous acid, but that at pH 7.5 the active hypochlorous available is around 50% (reduce as pH drops). With this knowledge, dosing is normally increased to compensate for this reduced activity.
sodiumhypochloride(at 12% concentration), you effectively pay for transport of 88% water. It also dissipaterapidly and increasethe sodium content of the treated water. Transportation is safe and significantly reduced in the case of chlorine dioxide.
- Chlorine Dioxide on the
ortherhand adds “no sodium ions” and produce no dangerous byproducts (below detection) and dissolves in water to safe levels of 2000ppm. No free chlorine in product– SUPERIOR for cleaning membranes and resin applications.
